Council to decide new logo on Tuesday

10 Jun, 2005 09:17 AM
THE Glen Innes Severn Council can expect to have a new logo by the end of next week with the committee set to make their final selection next Tuesday.

The logo has had a long-winded genesis with the first steps toward a new corporate image taken as far back as September last year.

A competition to decide the new council's name and a new logo was proposed by the then-administrator Frank Willan last September.

The $200 award for the winning name was awarded to Samantha Black who also submitted a number of logos.

In the February meeting of council a decision was made to form a committee to develop and select an acceptable logo for the council.

The council also allocated a $3,000 budget to finalise the project with expert and professional assistance.

Since then the committee have sourced assistance from the graphic artists and sign makers on staff at the Bruderhof communities Danthonia Designs. A submission by them was rejected at council's ordinary meeting in May.

Council felt the design of a golden oak leaf wasn't appropriate and the font used for the council's name difficult to read.

The committee were asked to continue their work for a suitable logo.

Acting General manager Robert Langford asked Councillor Steve Hicks, the committee chairman, to act quickly.

"We would like council to make a decision as soon as possible on the logo," Mr Langford said.

"It is becoming difficult to operate without a logo and we would like it in time to go out with the rate notices."

Since that meeting the committee have returned to Danthonia Designs with a more detailed brief and the council's Director of Corporate Development Ron Kempton said the committee expect to bring a decision to council next week.

"The committee have been given a new logo by Danthonia Designs featuring a stylised version of the Town Hall, that design has been sent back for some final touches," Mr Kempton said.

"The committee have also sought a design from an Armidale company.

"With the group meeting next Tuesday, I would expect the final designs be tabled then, a decision made and the results taken to council on the June 16 meeting."
