The Land of the beardies Festival will reach its climax this weekend.
The event began on Friday with the cut flower show and will conclude this weekend with an array of events at both King Edward Park and other locations.
Entertainment in the park will begin tomorrow evening from 5pm with amusement and carnival rides. The search for talent quest will highlight the night and feature youths up to the age of 17 with no limit to the talent on show.
On Saturday the street parade will begin the celebrations at 1pm and lead the crowd to the park where musical performances will take place throughout the afternoon and evening. The night will conclude with a fireworks display from 9pm.
The festival will draw to a close on Sunday with the final event being the Glen Innes Motor Sports Club drag races at the airport with qualifying commencing at 10.30am.
Festival chairman Neville Campbell said the events held thus far had been a success and was hopeful this would continue.
“Things are going pretty good. The dog show was a big success on the weekend and it will become a three day event next year. The Glen Gallop had 70 entrants and the target club open day attracted 60 people on Sunday,” he said.
“We would still like more entries in both the street parade and talent quest. Entries for the street parade have been coming in very slow and we need them in as soon as possible to coordinate the parade.”
Rain put a dampener on the festivities last year but Mr Campbell said if this were to occur again much of the entertainment would still take place in the large marquee.
Entry forms for the talent quest are still available at the Examiner office, Carelle’s Young World and Wayne and Kayline McCarthy Concrete and Aggregate.
Forms for the street parade are at the Glen Innes Visitor Information Centre.
