Although the cost of electricity has gone up, appliances have become cheaper to run, Craig Walmsley of Retravision said.
“With the advancement in technology, electrical appliances are more efficient to run than ever,” said Mr Walmsley (pictured above pointing to the energy rating of a refrigerator) .
Refrigerators are one of the bigger consumers of electricity in the household because they are on all the time.
Nowadays they are efficient and energy conservative. Twenty years ago, with the introduction of energy ratings, for a 500 litre fridge it would cost $150 a year to run - now the same fridge would cost a household $50 a year, Mr Walmsley said.
With televisions, plasma’s and LCD’s look the same but the new technology in the LCD TVs mean they are approximately one third cheaper to run over their plasma counterparts, Mr Walmsley said.
