The main tool used to inform visitors, attract people considering re-location and for residents to encourage friends and family to visit, the Visitors Information Guide has been revamped and will be relaunched next month.
Seventy thousand copies have been printed and will be distributed throughout Australia through Visitor Information Centres and trade shows.
Tourist Officer Melanie Fuller said every 18months a new guide is launched. She said this year’s guide had a fresher feel focusing predominately on nature and country but still kept the Celtic Country undertone.
“We used a lot of locals in the guide to make it a lot more community focused,” she said.
Manager of Tourism and Economic Development Wendy Fahey said producing the guide was a challenge for a small community. She said it had been well supported by the business community and was a quality guide that had been professionally written to not only help tourists when they were here but motivate them to come.
Ms Fahey said the guide featured attractions in Glen Innes, Emmaville and Torrington including the Standing Stones, national parks and fossicking. She said it included things to do two and even four hours away.
This year a new component in the guide is sport for all ages featuring lawn bowls, motor biking and cycling and the arts, the Chapel Theatre, library and galleries.
“The guide genuinely represents Glen Innes and the experience visitors enjoy on arrival,” Ms Fahey said.
The guide will be launched on Thursday October 1 from 5pm to 6:30pm at the Visitors Information Centre. Businesses and community members are invited to attend to network, share ideas and pick up a guide.
