Raising three daughters is a tough gig for any mum but devoting her time to her daughters and their interests came easy for Katrina Brewer who has not missed a single school function or major event in 19 years.
Mrs Brewer is the canteen supervisor at Glen Innes Public School, she has also volunteered in the canteen at Glen Innes West Infants School and Glen Innes High School. Mrs Brewer also volunteered at numerous school functions and helped with craft activities and reading. Outside of school she followed her youngest for five years as she pursued dance and has been a member of the Lioness Club for the past four years and is their current president.
Her daughters Gabby 19, Jess 17 in year 12 at Glen Innes High School and Anna 14 in year 9 at Glen Innes High School describe their mum as supportive, dependable, fun and always having a laugh. They say their mum has always been there for them and supported them in everything they do.
“It means a lot to have a mum who is always there,” Jess said. “Having her there has allowed us to develop our personalities. If we have kids we hope she will be able to go to their functions and hope she will always be there for us through life.”
Mrs Brewer who describes her daughters as good kids and good friends said, as they get older they get more independent which proves to be a challenge. She said Gabby is quiet and tends to stays out of everyone’s way, while Jess is very independent, an extrovert and strong-minded and Anna is outgoing.
“Having three daughters is never lonely it can get hectic, especially around the bathroom in the morning. But when worse comes to worse they all stick together,” she said. “My wish for them in life is and has always been for them to be happy, healthy and to be nice people.”
Mrs Brewer and her husband Deepwater SES co-ordinator Mike Brewer will spend the weekend in Yamba for their silver wedding anniversary but the girls say they have something special planned when she gets back.
Thinking about Mother’s Day Mrs Brewer said “I like to think I am a good mum I do what I can.”
“We couldn’t have asked for a better mum,” the girls replied.
