Glen Innes residents will benefit from the opening of an additional medical centre in town, which could attract more doctors to the area.
Dr Edward Or who relocated from Melbourne to the New England three years ago and commenced employment with the East Avenue Medical Centre last year, has recently set up temporary consulting rooms at 316 Grey Street.
Dr Or is awaiting the development application approval and construction of a new clinic in Taylor Street, opposite the Glen Innes and District Hospital, expected to take about six months.
Dr Or said once his new clinic, New England Skin and Medical Centre, is established he would hope to attract more general practitioners and medical students to practice and train in the area.
Dr Or will continue to work as a general practitioner but will also focus on the removal of complicated skin cancers through skin flap.
Dr Or is waiting on the delivery of PhotoDynamicTherapy (PDT) equipment to aid in the detection and diagnosis of skin cell changes for the early detection of skin cancer.
In addition Dr Or will continue to service the Endoscopy Unit at the Glen Innes, Inverell and Armidale hospitals for endoscopy procedures such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Or said he left the East Avenue practice because he wanted to work on the treatment of skin cancers and there was simply not enough room to house the equipment needed at the practice.
“I wanted to clear up some rumours and let people know that I am here to stay,” he said.
Dr Or is accepting new patients. Enquiries can be made at the clinic on 6732 6688.
