The Glen Innes Red Cross will offer residents the rare opportunity to receive individual appraisals of their antiques and treasures this Saturday.
The Land of the Beardies History House Museum will be the setting for the day that will feature three specialists from the New England region as well as Powerhouse Museum Conservator Skye Mitchell.
Rob Cunningham of Glen Innes will be on hand to discuss clocks, watches and music boxes, Michael Maratea from Armidale porcelain, silver and furniture and Margot Rees of Tenterfield, jewellery. Ms Mitchell will lend her eye to any other items that may appear on the day with a background in antiques as a whole.
Glen Innes Red Cross president Jo Cameron said a wealth of knowledge existed between the four experts.
“We are grateful to the historic society for opening the museum to us and particularly to the specialists for volunteering their time. We are also extremely lucky to have Skye from the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney with us,” she said.
The appraisals will be accompanied by a show and tell throughout the day with those attending asked to bring along their oldest, oddest treasure and tell the story behind it.
The Glen Innes Red Cross did hold a similar event a number of years ago but Mrs Cameron said this would be very different.
“Many years ago we had a day when people brought in their pieces and laid them out on a table but we can’t do that now. Everyone needs to be totally responsible for what they bring.”
E The day will begin at 11am at the History House and run through the afternoon at a cost of $25 that includes lunch. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to Jan Rowe on 6732 4998.
