Glen Innes residents lifted their voices to the sounds of Christmas on Sunday evening at Carols in the Barn.
The shelter area at Glen Innes High School was filled with music, stories and fun with young and old coming together to sing the familiar songs and hear the Christmas story.
The evening began with a complimentary sausage sandwich provided by the Glen Innes Rotary Club. The good crowd meant stocks ran out well before entertainment was due to begin.
Various local performers led the way with the carols as Spirit of the Glen, The Promise and the Glen Innes Public School choir all took to the stage. The singing was interwoven with the telling of the Christmas story by Pastor Geoff Hovey of the Tenterfield Christian Life Centre.
The Examiner estimated more than 250 people in attendance, with proceedings all going to plan.
“It went really well. There was a good crowd and the people really seemed to enjoy it,” event organiser and Seventh Day Adventist minister Keith Jackson said.
The move from Anzac Park to the high school was prompted by the risk of rain and the fact that the event had been cancelled due to the weather last year. Mr Jackson felt the decision had been a wise one and ensured the evening would proceed, regardless.
“With all of the rain the day before the school proved to be a good spot and ensured it wouldn’t be washed out.
“I think there is a good chance of holding it there again,” he said.
