Proving that increasing your chances of winning really does pay off, Gay Jillett has won this year’s Examiner rainwater tank giveaway.
Ms Jillett said she had been buying three papers at a time to win.
“I didn’t think I would win, I’ve never won anything like this before. In the last giveaway I only bought one paper at a time and I didn’t win so this time I thought I’d double up,” she said.
Ms Jillett lives at Emmaville. She has no main water supply and relies on tank water.
“The tin tank I already have that is the same size has a leak in it,” she said. “But the more tanks the better, I’ve already worked out where to put it.”
This is the second year the Examiner and Home Timber and Hardware have teamed up to giveaway a rainwater tank.
This year there were 193 entries for the 5000L tank, which is worth about $1200.
Don Davis of Home Timber and Hardware said there were currently no government subsidies on that size tank and for someone who relied on rainwater it was a big help.
Glen Innes Examiner Manager Lisa Reed said the amount of entries received showed that people in the community were interested in the tank.
“We first ran the giveaway at a time when people were really water conscious. It was so well received we thought we’d keep it going and make it an annual promotion,” Ms Reed said. “For the price of about six newspapers it is a big saving.”
