Local store Peter and Paul’s Superette was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with thieves causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Shop owners believe thieves were taking advantage of a power outage, as they broke in some time during Tuesday morning’s blackout.
The offenders made their way through a roller door at the front of the shop and escaped through a back exit.
While inside the shop they broke into a filing cabinet where they stole cash before attempting to break into the cigarette cabinet.
The thieves must also be concerned with their hygiene as deodorant and shampoo were some of the few items they got away with.
Owners are estimating that with the damage to the store and the stolen goods the bill will be in excess of $2,000.
Tuesday’s break in was the first since the current owners took over three years ago.
The alarm system was shut down by the blackout, but will now be upgraded so it can run through a power outage.
The break-in was discovered by a police officer who drove past the store in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
