When the StormCo youth group made their way to town to conduct kids’ clubs during the school holidays last month they left a mark on the community assisting with repairs and renovations to several public assets.
The group from the Avondale Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cooranbong joined Pastor Keith Jackson in restoring the Lions Club rest area next to the familiar trilithon stone arrangement on the southern side of town.
Mr Jackson said as he regularly travelled past the location from his property into town he could not help but notice the need for work to be done.
“Coming to Glen Innes I saw the three stones as the gateway to town and felt the area was in desperate need of work,” he said.
“I thought the barbecues needed to be in good working order and refurbished to complement the area. It took four weeks and StormCo worked on it every afternoon on the Monday to Thursday they were here.”
Local metal fabrication business A A McLeod and Co assisted the group with metal work on the barbecues.
In addition to this the StormCo group also did work on the gardens at the front of the Aboriginal Lands Council building and have a continuing commitment to the showground. Each year the Glen Innes Show Society provides the area for accommodation and in return StormCo has assisted with jobs around the ground particularly painting.
