Local cricketers and celebrities will team up on Friday night and try and put on a memorable performance for those attending the Glen Innes Show.
The cricket match is a new initiative at the Show aimed to bring something different to the ring events.
The match will be 10 players per side, with the two teams named the World team and the Australian team.
Every player will bowl an over each.
Each player will play under the alias of some of the greatest cricketers ever to pull on a pair of whites.
The match will be officiated by Railway Tavern Publican Nathan Sanderson and Glen Innes and District Services Club general manager Pat Lonergan.
Celebrities named to play include Member for the Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay, 2NZ radio host Gerry Taveira, Glen Innes Show Society president Charles Kiehne and Glen Innes Severn Council mayor Steve Toms.
Taveira will captain the World side as Sachin Tendulkar, while Shad Bailey will captain the Australians as Shane Warne.
Local cricketers involved include Nathan Kent as South African great Jacques Kallis, Shawn Mepham as England hero Andrew Flintoff and Joel Jackson as big hitting West Indian Chris Gayle for the World , while Tom McCarney and Chris Elvins will play as Australian fast bowling legends and Nick Lehman as burly former Australian paceman Merv Hughes.
The match will kick off at 7.30pm and should be fun for the crowd to watch, with a number of big hitters in either side expected to send the ball flying into the grandstand.
Bailey said he is looking forward to the event as it is a fun new concept for the Show.
“It’s something completely new,” he said.
“It will certainly be a different spectacle.”
Bailey said with the players picked to play it should be enjoyable for the crowd as well as the players.
“It’s good to see some young and old talent on show.”
The idea behind the match was a brain-child of Bill Walmsley, who has been hard at work organising the match for several weeks.
