The Glen Innes junior cricketers took to the fields on Saturday to commence their 2009 - 2010 season.
Under 12s
The under 12s game between Curley Mather’s team and Andrew Hodgson’s team was played at Wilson Park North.
Curley Mather’s team batted first and finished their innings after 20 overs, being all out for 66 runs.
Jacob Howard was the pick of the batsmen making 17 runs before being out stumped.
The pick of the bowlers for Andrew Hodgson’s team was Braydon Gallagher who took 2 wickets for 5 runs and Blake Cameron who took 2 wickets for 9 runs.
Andrew Hodgson’s team then went in to bat and had made 3 wickets for 86 runs after their allotted overs had been received.
Best of the batsmen was Perry Stapleton who remained 22 not out at the end of the innings.
The wickets taken by Curley Mather’s team were taken by Corey Mather, Lachlan Thomas and Damon Williams.
Andrew Hodgson’s team won this match by 20 runs.
The second under 12s match was played between Peter Johnson’s team and Robert Every’s team at Wilson Park South.
Peter Johnson’s team bated first and got off to a flyer when they lost their 1st wicket on 50 runs.
Brock Simpkins was solid at the top making 36 runs. He was the only batsman to make double figures. A late order collapse saw the total restricted to being all out for 81 runs.
Best of the bowling for Robert Every’s team was Thomas Mitchell who took 3 wickets for 4 runs.
Robert Every’s team then went in to chase down the runs but fell short making only 67 runs.
The only batsman to make a meaningful contribution to the score was Callum Hayden who remained on 21 runs not out. Extras contributed 44 runs to the total.
The pick of the bowlers for Peter Johnson’s team was Brock Simpkins who took 3 wickets for 9 runs.
Peter Johnson’s team won this match by 14 runs.
Under 16s
The under 16s match was played at Lynch Oval where all players met and their names went into a hat for the teams to be selected.
The team captains drawn out of the hat were Brendon Jillett and Toby Shannon. Brendon Jillett won the toss and elected to bat.
They got off to a good start, not losing their first wicket until the 8th over. After their allotted overs, they had taken the score to 6 wickets for 129 runs.
Top scorers were Jay Gallagher on 25 not out and Alex Kovacs also on 25 runs and was well supported by Jesse Trevett who remained 14 not out.
Best of the bowling for Toby Shannon’s team was Nathan Marzulli who took 2 wickets for 18 runs.
Toby Shannon’s team then went in to chase down the runs but a steady fall of wickets prevented them from making their target being all out for 96 runs.
Blake Steel made 36 runs and Michael Chard making 13 runs before being the 10th wicket to fall.
Best of the bowling for Brendon Jillett’s team were Jesse Trevett who took 2 wickets for 7 and Nathan Campbell who took 2 wickets for 9 runs.
Brendon Jillett’s team won this match by 34 runs.
The Under 16’s will again meet at Lynch Oval at 8.30am where teams will be drawn. Each player will receive one point for playing and will receive an addition 3 points if they are playing on the winning team. At the end of the year the 11 players with the most points will receive a special tee shirt.
