Sunday socials get into full swing

24 Jul, 2008 10:45 AM
Sunday morning social bowls has taken a recent upward surge with a record twenty-six bowlers taking to the greens last Sunday morning.

New member Barrie Tomlinson teamed up with Alan Beehag to claim the trophy for the morning with a win over Neil Ellem and Ian Moore by twelve ends to six.

Sunday morning social bowls commences at 10.00am and is played over 18 ends by mixed members. New members are invited to come along and enjoy the fun. Spare bowls are available for newcomers to try. Mufti clothing is worn on social bowls days and the only requirement is for flat-soled bowls shoes (not joggers), or bare feet. Intending members can call into the club at any time to enquire about playing.

The Lady bowlers have chosen a new President for the next three years. Susan Judge has taken on the top job from Elaine Symko who has completed her term in office. We thank Elaine for her co-operation in working with the Mens’ club and we look forward to the same close liaison with Susan.

A fun day of bowls has been set down for Sunday August 17 as a fundraiser for the Westpac helicopter. Peter Willott will be organizing the day with the assistance of the committee. Non-bowlers are most welcome to come along.

The AGM and Presentation day has been set down for Sunday August 3 at 10.00am.

Members are encouraged to take a position on the committee for the coming season. The nomination board will be closed off this Sunday at 5.00pm

After the AGM and free barbecue, Turnabout triples will be played at 1.00pm. on the Sunday afternoon for a shield donated by Marell and Kevin Fakes.

This will be followed at 4.30pm by the annual presentation of trophies to club champions and runners-up for 2008 season.

A nomination sheet for teams for the Turnabout triples is now on the notice board. Teams must have no more than one A-grader. In this type of event all three players take a turn for seven ends at lead, second and skip which makes for quite an interesting game. Single entry names may be separately nominated on the board for inclusion in a team.
