In a surprise move Group 19 have allowed long time exiled clubs the Moree Boomerangs and Narwan Eels back into the rugby league competition.
At the Group 19 Annual General Meeting held in Glen Innes on Sunday, Moree who were removed from the group more than ten years ago and Narwan who were excluded three years ago were re-instated in the competition.
In addition all clubs will be made to play an A grade side and at least one other in the 2010 competition (after just five A grade teams were fielded this year). While the decision will boost the quality of the competition it has a major impact on the Bingara, Warialda and Uralla clubs.
Re-elected Group 19 president Paul Macrae said Warialda had indicated their intention to field an A grade side. He said Uralla and Bingara had two weeks to decide whether they were able to field a top side, which would see the number of teams in the group bolstered to ten.
Mr Macrae said if the teams chose not to play in the group 19 competition they were unable to play with another group according to new Country Rugby League rules.
The two-year reign of the President’s Cup competition has been scrapped returning to reserve grade. While the under 18s will now play as a curtain raiser to the A grade match.
Meanwhile the Glen Innes Rugby League Club held their AGM last week, with long-time club president Gordon Creighton stepping aside (remaining on the committee and group 19 management committee). Al Colbert will take over as president, with Howard Whan as senior vice president, Jacob Key and Charlie Newberry as junior vice presidents, Naomi Davidson as secretary, Tina Steel as assistant secretary, Fiona Williamson as game day secretary, Ben and Pat Lonergan filling the role of publicity officer and Casey Sharman taking on the role of social committee chair. The club is yet to formally appoint a treasurer.
