Eighty-three shooters from 20 clubs enjoyed two days of beautiful sunshine and fierce competition at Glen Innes Clay Target Club last weekend.
They had come to get a respite from the rain and to win at least one of the 10 sapphires on offer.
Lots of cash and other prizes were also up for grabs.
The shoot-offs several times lasted much longer than the initial event.
Saturday’s 50 target double barrel event demanded 202 targets before it was finalised and Sunday’s sapphire event kept going to 185 targets.
The first event alone saw 20 shooters hit all the targets. The second day’s first event had 28 shooters do the same.
Ralph Larkings, the club president, his son Owen and daughter Nicole all had a good time, winning several events each.
Other Glen Innes shooters to have wins in more than event was Trevor Miller, Peter Kennedy, Rodney Johnson and James Klingner.
The golden spoon, shot off between the club’s monthly highgun winners, was won by Matt Colley, Inverell. The Macansh tray was this year kept by Guyra Gun Club.
This sapphire shoot was also a memorial shoot to Dugald Mactaggart, who was a member, sponsor and patron of the club for many years before he passed away late last year. His two sons, David and John, intend to continue the ties with the club.
Sadly, another member and past president, Monty Klingner, also passed away only two days before this shoot.
A minute’s silence was held, followed by a gun salute, fired by James Klingner, David and John Mactaggart.
