Duffell claims the crown

A heated battle between the top two teams concluded the tennis teams competition on Saturday and it was the team led by Jason Duffell that claimed the crown.

Duffell and Sue Rees’ teams had been the clear leaders throughout the competition. On Saturday the teams remained close up until the final round when Duffell’s team won the last three sets to win the competition.

Rees’ team had been ahead 5-4 going into the final sets but their opposition stormed home to win 7-5sets.

The winning team was Jason Duffell, Nick Grob, Dianne Morris, Michael Miller, Jody Burey and Cathy Southgate.

In the Thursday night ladies’ competition Kerrie Sharman and Sue Rees’ teams made it two from two. Rees’ team had no worries taking care of Chris Smith’s team with a 44-20 score while Sharman’s team finished with a 37-27 win against Jeanette Hillier’s team.

In the remaining match of the night Vanessa Bloxsome’s team were able to narrowly defeat Mavis Haselwood’s team 34-30.

Tonight’s bye team is Sue Rees, Barbie Clark, Michelle Latham and Gloria Freak.

The two matches on Monday night finished with very different scores. Elva Cooper’s team were easy winners against Annabel Dulhunty’s team 41-23 while Jocelyn Baker’s team edged out Kathy Symons’ team 33-31.

The bye team for Monday night will be Kathy Symons, Carolyn Say, Tracy Nay and Renae Smart.

The men had there second week of play on Tuesday night. Adam Morris’ team built up a lead against Jason Duffell’s team to win 37-27 and Matthew Miller’s team had their second win with a 36-28 finish against Mike Stone’s team.

The club’s annual presentation day will be held this Saturday. Social tennis will begin at 2pm with the presentation to take place at approximately 4pm. Those attending are asked to bring a plate of food for afternoon tea.
