According to Glen Innes Severn Council tourism and events manager Peter Teschner, the accreditation will allow the centre to attract a larger demographic of out-of-town visitors.
“People can be confident of receiving a high level of quality and service from the centre which encourages people to stop on their visit, stay and stay longer.”
According to Mr Teschner, the economic and social advantages of the accreditation will not only benefit the centre but also the town.
“Not long ago, my wife and I were having dinner at a local club when we came across a number of out-of-town visitors,” Mr Teschner said.
“We asked them if they planned to stop and they told us that the level of service and information that they had received from local information centre guru Fred Blair was so extensive that they had decided to stop for at least one night.”
According to Aurora accreditor Val Schaefer, Level 2 accreditation is about ensuring an image of customer service that visitors can come to expect from local community representatives like Mr Blair and Mr Teschner.
“It is really about a two-way conversation between the centres and the accreditors that allows for a high level of quality and customer service, from the implementation of signage right though to day-to-day management, bookings and merchandise,” Ms Schaefer said.
According to Mr Teschner, the next step for centre is to work towards the implementation of recurring signage on all roads in and out of Glen Innes that encourage travellers to stop and stay in the community.
