The Glen Innes TAFE New England (TNE) celebrated their annual awards ceremony on Thursday, November 28, with a number of local dignitaries attending including Mayor Colin Price, Rotary President Doug Fowler and Examiner manager Lisa Reed.

A number of awards were presented on the day, including the Glen Innes and Severn Council Award, presented by Cr Price to Dana Bowman, named this year’s high achieving tertiary preparation student.
Top Aboriginal student was Freida Boney, taking out the Local Glen Innes Lands Council Award, while the Joblink Plus Award for outstanding student in hospitality went to Roslyn Hudson.
The BEST Employment Award outstanding communication and achievement in skills for work and training went to Leilani-Rose Sheridan, while Rotary President Doug Fowler presented James Colston with the Glen Innes Rotary award for upholding the Four Way Test: “is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”.
For excellence in oral, written or visual communication, Glen Innes Examiner manager Lisa Reed presented Sam Hall with the Glen Innes Examiner Award, while the Glen Innes Lions Club Award for outstanding achievement in health and community services went to Natasha burgess.
Cr Price was also on hand to present the Notley’s Wool Award for outstanding achievement in Certificate IV Wool Classing, which was jointly share between Greg Wright and Andrew Looker.
The TM Burnie Award for the hard working business administration student was presented by Gary Walker of the Uniting Church and went to Simone Kubank, while the Eric Wharton Memorial Award, also for the hard working business administration student, went to Eliza Key.
Both the Harry Kent Memorial Award and the WE Johnston Memorial Award are presented for hard working business administration students and this year went to Rebekah Jillett and Patricia Carr respectively.
Cody Hogan was on hand to accept the Diana and Brian Donnelly Memorial Award, presented by Malcolm Donnelly, recognising the high achieving trade student, while Jill Newberry presented the Glen Innes Opportunity Shop Award for high achievement in a chosen field to Susan Trask.
Finally, TNE representative Sharon Ritchie presented the Glen Innes Campus Manager Award to president of the student association Graham Donnelly.
In the special awards, aged care students Dusty Cruickshank, Daniel Schiling, Chloe Ogle and Megan Copp were recognised for their efforts, while the Business and Creative Services Award for achievement in bookkeeping went to Lisa Wright and Belen Castillo and the General Education and Equity Services Award went to Ethan Boney for achievement in skills work and training.
