The quest is a nationwide competition where qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, personality, public speaking and good citizenship is sought among our youth. It is a great opportunity for young people to develop skills which will last a lifetime.
This year the Lioness Club organised the event with help of Lions coordinator Chris Judge.
The contestants were required to have face-to-face interviews with the judges prior to attending a combined Lions/Lioness dinner meeting where they gave two impromptu speeches and a prepared speech.
The topics for the impromptu talks were on turning back the boats and the rights and wrongs of the private lives of celebrities being made public. The difficult topics were handled well by both contestants.
For the prepared presentation Brianna chose nuclear medicine and the way radioactive substances affect our lives, both for the good and the bad.
Gabbi gave an insight into the way young people are thinking about, and the respect shown to our diggers, past and present.
The award for best speeches went to Brianna while Gabbi, won the youth leadership prize.
Both girls will go on to compete in the regional finals in their respective events to be held in Armidale.
