Securing a number of wins throughout the season, the local 13s, 14s and 17s have three remaining regional carnivals to contest in Moree, Armidale and Coffs Harbour before travelling to Sydney to test their skills against the state’s top young athletes.
As the season continues, head coach Julie Latham commended the girls on their efforts, performing exceptionally well in the recent coastal carnival held in Grafton.
“The coastal competitions are generally tougher than the rural carnivals,” Latham said.
“The girls have done really well this season.”
With eyes on the top prizes for the state carnival, Ms Latham said the last year’s team came home among the top nine teams in the state, with this year’s contenders aiming to come away in the top six, with the 17s team aiming for a spot on the dais.
As the girls continue with regional carnivals in the lead up to Sydney, the three local teams are preparing a fundraising breakfast to be held at the front of Coffee Incident from 9am on Saturday, April 26.
With hot bacon and egg rolls, sausage sandwiches and a special cake stall, the girls will be on hand raising funds to cover the costs of travel to Sydney.
Raffle tickets will also be on sale, with winter firewood, and a multi-prize dressed lamb and hamper up for grabs.
Continuing to perform well in the 2014 season, the girls are calling for community support on Saturday, with regular weekend matches to commence again on May 3, boasting barbecues and cake stalls all going towards club funds and the anticipated Sydney carnival.
