After receiving a healthy portion of the NSW Government’s Sport and Recreation grants rollout, amounting to $21,000, combined with generous donations from the local Pony Club and Show Society, the Glen Innes Showground Trust have completed further works to ensure the local showgrounds continue to provide accessibly for all patrons and guests.

Following the completion of most recent works, including three new female and two new male shower blocks at the rear of the show society office, complete with a fully-equipped wheelchair-access shower block and lavatory, trust secretary Patric Millar said the new amenities have made significant headway in improving accessibility on the grounds for wheelchair users.
Built in close proximity to the recently-installed wheelchair-access viewing platform east of the existing grandstand, the new amenities will allow for more convenient access for wheelchair users, as well as show competitors and site holders who regularly camp at the eastern end of the showgrounds.
With considerable efforts from the Show Society and Pony Club to raise funds for the amenities’ completion, Mr Millar said the project could not have been completed without the support of both organisations and the support of numerous local businesses including prominent local building contractor Greg Burgess who saw to the facilities’ construction.
As the local showground undergoes significant infrastructural changes over recent months, the completion of the new amenities block was fast-tracked through grant support delivered by state MP Adam Marshall in March, leading to the completion of works in May this year.
Now in full operation, the new facility will join the major upgrade of the showground lights, anticipating completion in time for the annual camp draft later this year and promising a more efficient and accessible show season in 2015.
