Coming off the back of a number of large groups visiting Glen Innes in recent months, the Glen Innes Visitor Information Centre’s
Sal Molesworth said Glen Innes was becoming an increasingly popular inland tourist destination.
Commenting on the numerous festival-style events that have passed through the community in recent months, Ms Molesworth said Glen Innes is becoming more “event prone” with word spreading among caravanning and tourist groups that Glen is the place to be.
“Glen Innes is a great venue,” Ms Molesworth said, noting the abundance of natural and heritage attractions as well as the glow crime rate and friendly locals contributing to a rampant community drive.
As the region moves to showcase inland New England as an alternative to the aging coastal Australian tourist identity, Glen Innes would be ideally placed to welcome inland travellers with high performing agricultural food and wine industries combined with an abundant heritage profile and surrounding national parks and state forests.
Commenting on the diverse tourism market, Ms Molesworth said part of the “local flavour” appeal was the community determination to promote various natural agricultural and heritage sites as having tourism potential.
“We’ve had to make it happen,” she said.

Trust secretary Patric Millar said the camper trailer group is estimating an approximate $50,000 boost to the local economy as a result of numerous opportunities in their weeklong schedule to take in the sample the local market and take in the attractions.
Anticipated to arrive on Monday, September 22, the national meet will run throughout the week, with the local Showground Trust gearing up to host the campers on the showgrounds. Wednesday, September 24, has been reserved as a chance for the group to take in the local attractions, with
Showground Trust president Mike Condon coordinating sheep dog trials and shearing demonstrations alongside hints of a possible market showcasing top local wares.
The Glen Innes Mens Shed will also have a driving hand in hosting the visiting campers, preparing breakfasts as well as supplying firewood and raffling off a number of items made in house.
