With face painting, a barbecue, a feature match between our master male spectators and opens netball girls and a raffle thanks to the generosity of New England Hardwoods with its donation of a load of wood, the day was deemed to be a great success.
Our feature match saw many of our netball dads take to the courts in their best dresses, much to the disbelief of many of their children and provided the crowd with a great deal of laughs.
The men, dubbed team “Public Enemy” showed off their natural prowess with the ball and the match was fairly evenly contested.
Initially it looked to be going the way of the girls, but the dads soon found their groove and used their height to their advantage to come away with an 18-12 win.
One to the highlights of the match was the umpiring skills displayed by Dean Gillett who couldn’t quite decide which code he was there to umpire for. A special thanks must go to all the dads who got involved in what will now be an annual event.
The association would like to thank all the players, coaches, supporters, scorers and umpires for their efforts this year.
It has been a great year seeing the Little Diamonds improving and having fun each week. Thanks must go to Julie Fuller and Taya Heagney for their commitment and dedication given to these girls.
Our juniors have come a long way since the commencement of the season, kicking the season off with fresh faces, teams and enthusiasm. All players have put in an amazing effort and never gave up.
The grand final playoff on the weekend saw the Tigers and Cheetahs come head to head. All the girls in both of these teams have consistently shown improvement in their skills which was apparent in the match. At the final whistle though the Tigers were too good for the Cheetahs walking away with an 8-3 win.
The C grade competition has been closely contested all season between all four teams, however Saturday’s grand final saw the Firebirds take on the Vixens. While both teams were without some of their regular players it still saw a great battle ensue with the Firebirds eventually claiming victory over the Vixens 23-14.
The A grade grand final promised to deliver a match of high quality and prowess as the undefeated Tavern Netprechauns took on Dee’s Sapphires. Tavern got away to a strong start with the first goal off an intercept which sat them in a comfortable position heading into the second quarter.
Dee’s fought back in the second reclaiming some ground but Tavern found a comfortable rhythm and by the end of the game they had undoubtedly claimed the premiership with a 55-20 point victory.
