Spokesperson and school captain Gabi Willis said the day started quite early with a definite carnival atmosphere and theme.

“We started with indoor activities that included an auction of three students, some lollies and fake jewellery,” Gabi said.

“We then went on to have some circus-style games which were quite entertaining.”

School staff members John Elliot and Chris Matthews were willing participants in activities as they gave in to demands for Mr Elliot to have his chin strap shaved off and Mr Matthews to be given a mohawk.

“We also held a photo booth, popcorn stand, face painting and a dunk tank as part of the outdoor carnival atmosphere,” Gabi said, the dunk tank proving to be the most popular.

“Then there was the relay between year 12 students versus other students and teachers,” she said.

The year 12s then took to the streets of Glen Innes, kindly coercing passers-by and workers to contribute to their fundraising efforts. It was all for a worthy cause, though, as all proceeds – totalling an amazing $3468 – were donated to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

At the year 12 graduation night held on September 18 from 7pm at the Town Hall, new school captains were heralded in, and awards were presented. Gabi was one of many proud recipients on the night. She received an award for all-round sportsperson.

Shaeleigh Dunbar won the $2000 Opportunity Shop scholarship to assist with university studies, and among many other award recipients Jessica Cook took home the school medallion.
