Past-president Nathan Pervis handed the reins to Nigel Sharman, with Mr Pervis taking on the vice president role. Dean Swaffer is secretary, Shawn Mepham is treasurer, and Phil Shannon is publicity officer and statistician.
Cricket NSW’s Central Northern Region development manager Kathy Barber was also in attendance, and was impressed on how last year’s committee got Glen Innes cricket back on its feet Twelve players representing four clubs were at the meeting, Glen Innes is now back in representative cricket and will field teams in both the shields in the upcoming season.
Ms Barber congratulated all who attended the AGM and also reported on how Cricket NSW would like the sport to improve outside the metro areas and how to progress players from Milo in2 Cricket for the under 10s to junior cricket to the senior ranks.
The Glen Innes cricket season will start on Saturday, October 11 with 10 games to be played before Christmas and games to restart mid-January. Finals will be played on March 28 next year.
A nomination meeting for teams will be held on Wednesday, October 8 at the Tatts Hotel starting at 7pm. At this stage defending premiers Glen Innes Services Club, Railway Tavern, Tatts and New England Club have already nominated at the AGM. If any other club would like to nominate they will have to do so at the October meeting.
Any player that would like to compete – old or new – can nominate at this meeting and the committee can place them into a team. Even potential players unable to commit to being available for every match can register as a casual player, available to any team.
Junior players can also sub up into a senior team, providing they have parental permission and wear all the required safety gear, including a helmet, when batting.
Cricket regulations for the season have been passed at the AGM with this year’s competition being a 35-over competition with a round of 20-over cricket to be played over the Christmas/New Year period. There will be a Pink Stumps day on February 14, with all teams participating.
Glen Innes Cricket will use the Cricket Australia’s WeetBix MyCricket application for the upcoming season. WeetBix MyCricket gives community cricket the opportunity to manage players, competitions, statistics, and their own website to streamline operations for both junior and senior cricket.
Instruction in using WeetBix MyCricket is on this Sunday, September 28 at the Glen Innes and District Services Club from 9-11.30am. Players from all clubs are requested to attend.
