It was take-your-children-to-work day, sort of, when Glen Innes Rotary Club members brought along their family for a special Mad Hatters party at the regular Monday night dinner at the Glen Innes and District Services Club recently.

The only stipulation was that everyone had to sport appropriate head gear for the occasion, and some wacky toppers were the result.
With half of the population likely to experience a mental health issue, club president Peter Haselwood (wearing a glittery bowler on the night) said the club joined with many other Rotary clubs and other organisations across the country to raise money and awareness for mental health.
Proceeds from the local effort – totalling more than $500 from hat-wearing fees and a number of other extortions by ringmaster Dutchy te Velde – went to the Australian Rotary Health Foundation.
Mr Haselwood said the mad hatters party was one of a number of family-oriented events the club holds throughout the year, and he encouraged more families to get involved.
