Sixty people who have been involved in GLENRAC over the years gathered at the Glen Innes and District Services Club to celebrate, renew acquaintances, and make new ones.
The dinner featured former Glen Innes district agronomist and inaugural Landcare Australia CEO Brian Scarsbrick as guest speaker. Guests enjoyed a thought-provoking trip down memory lane as Mr Scarsbrick compared the mindset of land managers when he first came to the area in 1972, to that of today.
The dinner followed the annual general meeting where Jim Benton was elected chair, John Bavea vice chair, Jeff Lowien secretary, and Sam Baker treasurer. Local landholder representatives re-elected to the committee included Norman Whitaker, Tony Holliss, Greg Chappell, Mike Norton and, after a long hiatus, Desmond Fitzgerald was also welcomed back.
A number of local landholders who haven’t previously been on the board put their hand up to volunteer their time and experience, including newly-elected committee members Gordon Wollen, Geoff Coldham and Jane Munro.
