A large group of thirsty cyclists stopped off at Tatts Hotel Glen Innes on Saturday as part of their efforts to raise money for sick kids. The 1200kms for Kids charity bike ride, which has been running since 2005, has made significant contributions to Glen Innes Hospital over the years, including $30,000 over the past three years.

While aiming for a further $10,000 to the local hospital out of this year’s ride, a final figure will be known upon completion of the ride which sees participants cycle from Sydney to Brisbane over six gruelling days.
Cyclists were joined by their support crews at the Tatts as well as Tatts staff and local staff of major ride sponsor Westpac Bank, as well as members of the Glen Innes Hospital Auxiliary, who have also been actively raising money for the cause.
The idea for the ride was conceived by two friends in 2005, Garry Richardson and Trevelyan Bale, who decided to form a group to cycle 1200kms in six days to raise money for the hospitals who had helped their sick children. The primary beneficiaries of the ride are the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and the Children’s Health Foundation, but donations are also made to local hospitals along the course of the ride.
As part of the fundraising efforts the Tatts Hotel raised $2750 for Glen Innes Hospital through a trivia night and raffles which were drawn on Saturday. The winners of the raffles will be notified in coming days by Tatts proprietor Sharon Hubbard who told The Examiner she would be happy to continue her support for the ride in future years.
“If I’m here next year I will be happy to help them out as it is for a really good cause,” she said.
