The Glen Industries staff began working at Woolworths and will continue working there each week over the coming months and will likely learn a variety of different tasks as well as different sides of the retail industry.
Glen Industries general Manager Kylie Hawkins said the program, which is of enormous benefit to the staff of the disability enterprise, came about through the hard work of local Pathfinders’ staff.
“It’s a brand new initiative orchestrated by Pathfinders Jason Reed who is their ability linker. It’s a collaborative program with Glen Industries, Pathfinders and Woolworths to provide community participation, the development of work skills and promoting diversity.
“Initially we’ve been doing facing up and product presentation and who knows where it could go from here.”
Woolworths Glen Innes representative Dean Wilkins said the local store was happy to be involved.
“It’s great to see them out and about in the community. It is only their first shift and they are doing a great job,” he said.
