Organiser Jan Sharman reports that attendance was up on previous years, probably thanks to the kind weather. The weather was also welcomed by victims of the Dunk the Vicar attraction at the fete, although local relieving vicar Richard Clements was under the weather himself and seconded church warden David Baulchim to receive the dunking.

MP Adam Marshall was also dunked.

“Then the kids took over the machine and had a great time,” Mrs Sharman said.

Mrs Sharman said the entertainment on the day was excellent, kicking off with the Glen Innes Pipe Band stirring emotions and featuring students from local schools and a dance group. A number of soloists – young and old – also made an impact, with Ron McAllist-er’s performance a crowd-pleaser.

“And the church just looked magnificent with all the flowers,” Mrs Sharman said.

As always events like this involved a lot of volunteer effort, but Mrs Sharman said it was all worth it in the end. Stallholders put in a great deal of work, and new stands such as the match-the-name-to-the-photo display, scrapbooking and memorabilia proving popular, along with the many anticipated stalls.

Proceeds from the fete go towards the upkeep of the parish throughout the year.

“Thanks seems so little to say,” Mrs Sharman said.
