THE Glen Innes Bowling Club’s annual Rose Carnival was hailed a huge success after attracting bowlers from around the region and interstate to compete over five days of competition last week. Glen Innes bowling club bowlers featured heavily in each days play and more than held their own against stiff competition.

In its 57th year the carnival began with mixed pairs on Wednesday, first place went to Jan Anderson and Kylie Skaines, with runner up going to Denise and Kevin Berry, third place went to Pat Campbell and Geoff Lockwood.
Thursday saw ladies triples played with Bertha Reeves teaming up with Glen Innes’s Joan Newsome and Carolyn McClelland to win from Jan Anderson’s team, with third going to the team of E. Brunner, L. Apthorpe and M. Drozdowski.
Friday’s play featured three rounds of men’s two bowls triples with the first round won by the team of N. Shaw, K. Beattie and D. Camp. The second round was won by Jim Thomas, Bob Wemmis and Ian Jacobs and the third round was taken out by Frank Williams Derek Brown and Ian Barclay.
Saturday play was the same format as Friday and the winners of the first round were Terry Lee, Dennis Williams and John Lee. The second round went to Col Pritchard, Les Dawson and Col Dawson while the third round went to Ian Pringle, B. Orvad and P. Bool.
Sunday’s final day of play was a two bowl open triple event with the first round won by Bill Newberry, Phil Perkins and Ian Whitton. The second round was won by Lorna Moore, Trevor Pevy and Lily Grange.
Club representative Peter Donnelly said the club would like to thank all the sponsors of the event for contributing to another successful Rose Carnival.
