The Glen Innes Rotary Club held its Rotary Youth Citizenship Awards at the Glen Innes and District Services Club on Monday night.

A dinner was held as the club honoured those Rotary members 30 and under who have contributed to the community. The evening was kicked off with an opening by Mike Condon who was MC for the night, alongside Rotary president Peter Haselwood.
After an introduction of and welcoming of guests by Mr Haselwood and Mr Condon, those is attendance sat down for a dinner before Ken Barker and Graham Price gave an overview of Rotary Youth projects with Mr Price telling the crowd of assembled teachers, parents, grandparents and guests how a Rotary youth leadership camp had a profoundly positive effect on his life.
A raffle was followed by dessert before the Youth Citizenship Awards were announced. Rotary Glen Innes director of youth services Steve Rudd said the evening displayed many civic-minded young people within the district.
“Each of the schools nominate two students they feel meet the ideals of Rotary and we award them with a book voucher from Schafer’s,” Mr Rudd said.
“It showcased the youth in Glen Innes and in the district that are really community-minded.”
Awardees included Flynn Mahoney and Shyanne Sturtridge from Deepwater Public School, Kathryn Luxford and Brandon Davis from Emmaville Central School, and Michael Alley and Brianna Short from Glen Innes High School, Jack Goldman and Annaliese Gillett from Glen Innes Public School and Sophie Sharman and Carter Goard from St Joseph’s School Glen Innes.
