Ruby Beattie, Emily Burton, Elizabeth Chard, Siddella Donnelly, Taya Heagney, Eleanor Malone and Gracie Martin were each selected in the squad which will help them to develop their skills and abilities and hopefully go on to higher honours in netball.
The girls who are the largest group of players from Glen Innes to be selected for the NIAS program, will now train fortnightly for a year in different towns around the region, with the squad beginning with an induction in Tamworth on November 30. The induction day will see the girls undergo strenuous fitness tests including the dreaded beep test as well as a jump test, push ups and sit ups and a plank test.
While in the program the girls will also attend meetings which will feature talks on nutrition, public speaking and physiology.
The players will attend a three day camp in Bathurst in January which will be attended by two other academies, where they will be under the tutelage of the top NSW coaches. They will also compete at the Academy Games on the Central Coast as well as the NIB games in Newcastle, against eight other sporting academies from across the state.
Each girl will have to try out for the squad again at the conclusion of the program as long as they are eligible.
The players will be part of the 2015 netball program under head coach Kirstie Fuller, assistant coach Sophie Sozou and trainee coach Zoe Selby.
