Services Cricket Club will be hoping to put a quick stop to the form of Tatts batsman Shawn Mepham when they clash at King George Oval on Saturday after Tatts inflicted their only loss so far this summer earlier in the year. Mepham is in fine form with the willow after scoring 206 for Glen Innes’s representative side in Bingara last Sunday and Services skipper Nick Lehman is confident his side can notch up another victory if they can get Mepham out before his innings starts rolling.

“We should go alright against them, we will be up against Shawn who’s in great form at the moment but if we can get him out early I think we can get them,” he said.
When asked how his side would go about taking Mepham’s wicket, Lehman said on present form he could see no weaknesses in Mepham’s batting for his bowlers to exploit.
“I don’t think there is, not after hitting 19 sixes in one game.”
Reigning Glen Innes Cricket champions Services have only lost one game this year, despite being shorthanded in the majority of the games they have played this year.
Lehman was optimistic about the team’s chances of taking the title this year, especially if they can pick up a few extra bodies.
“We haven’t gone too bad this year, we do need some more numbers though as we have been playing most games with eight or nine players so I think we’ve done well to win as many games as we have,” he said.
Lehman is hopeful the holiday season will see the return of two key players to bolster his side.
“Jake Baker, he works up north hopefully should be back and may be able to play some games, he was the opening bowler for the representative side, so he’s pretty good with the ball, and also Thomas McCarney he’s a bit of an all-rounder.”
Lehman said he didn’t think the recent rain would have too much of an effect on local pitches, but added with heavy rain predicted today and tomorrow, local cricket could get washed out for the second consecutive week.
“It dries off pretty quickly from the pitches and the outfield but they’re saying it’s going to rain this Thursday and Friday so that might put a dampener on things,” he said.
In the weekend’s other match the New England Club Colts take on Railway Tavern at Lynch Oval.
Following this weekend’s round there are two more rounds of local cricket before the compeititon breaks up for three weeks for Christmas and New Year holidays followed by the Glen Innes Races.
