In a boost to Group 19 rugby league the Guyra Superspuds and Warialda will return to group 19 and the Tingha Tigers will field teams an A grade side in this year’s competition after some doubt earlier in the year about the viability of their top grade side going forward. The addition of the two teams and the recent confirmation of Tingha’s continuation in the group will give the Glen Innes Magpies and other group 19 clubs more teams to battle in the regional competition. Armidale based side the Narwan Eels are also seeking to re-enter the competition in a move which will certainly shake up the competition should their application go ahead, especially the Armidale Rams.

Glen Innes Magpies publicity officer and player Ben Lonergan said the addition of Guyra and Warialda is a boost to the sport in the region.
“’It’s definitely good for group 19 , the more the merrier really, when I first started playing with the magpies in A grade in 2009 there were five sides and you would play the same teams four or five times and there could be as much as 11 sides this year which is great,” he said.
“Guyra and Warialda are two of the more storied teams in the group so it’s good to have them back.”
The Tigers will be coached by former St George Dragons player Nathan Blacklock with Clint Connors as assistant coach.
The Magpies have already begun pre-season training under new player coach Nick Ehsman and will look to go one further than 2014 where they lost in the semi-finals to Inverell.
