The future of TAFE, Medicinal Cannabis and renewable energy were the key topics spoken about during made a special visit to Glen Innes by Greens MP John Kaye while touring the New England Region on Thursday.

The MP joined local teacher and Northern tablelands green candidate Mercurios Goldstein at the meet and greet at the Glen Innes Town Library which saw approximately 22 people attending to hear both Greens members speak about the issues the Greens are passionate about heading into the next state election in approximately eight weeks times. Mr Kaye told those in attendance that government must stop standing in the way of the legalisation of medicinal cannabis.
“It is the role of government to provide access to things which make people’s lives better and not stand in the way,” he said.
With regards to the future of TAFE among a number of other concerns he told the assembled crowd that a number of regional TAFE’s have had to cut jobs or face to face time with students due to government changes.
“There has been three New England TAFES which have shut from 5 days a week to 3 days a week,” he said.
When speaking on renewable energy and climate change Mr Kaye said climate change is major problem for our society.
“The biggest threat we face as a society is climate change,” he said.
Mr Kaye also spoke about how the economy needs to change before asking the assembled supporters to be agents of change in their communities themselves by spreading the Greens message. Mr Kaye and Mr Goldstein finished the evening by taking questions and general comments from the crowd of supporters.
The Greens will hold a fundraiser on February 21 at the New England Brewery in Uralla and will also have a stall at this weekend’s Glen Innes show.
