“Numbers have been slow due to seasonal conditions so we are sort of six to eight weeks behind what we usually are, but what lambs have come forward have been good,” he said.
“We are just starting to see now, the way the season has turned out, the lambs are showing a little bit of dryness, but overall we have to commend the vendors for how the lambs have been purely because we didn’t have rain before Christmas.”
Mr Bailey said recent rainfall has produced some ideal short and fresh pick for sheep, but said more rain would be needed in the lead up to winter to see sustainable quality improvement.
“We need a lot more rain and a lot more bulk, otherwise it is going to be a long, tough winter like it was last year,” he said.
Winners of this year’s pens have been awarded with cash bonus and $200 ram credit for the coming YASLOC sale on Friday, March 6.
Winning buyers who purchase a ram for upwards of $600 will be able to claim the $200 ram bonus, while overall champion pens for the competition were awarded a five litre supply of Hattrick drench.
