The committee said they were grateful for the continuous support for the Progress Association for the previous five years and are excited to be branching out as an independent community event.
“Because we are independent now, we can run with it, do whatever we like. We’re not bound by anything. If we fail, it’s our fault, but if we boom, boy we are going to take the credit,” Committee member Sharyn Rhodes said last week.
The Festival has recruited around 15 members to help run and facilitate the festival which will be run over one day to be confirmed as the date approaches.
Hard conditions marred the two-event held at the end of October last year, prompting the committee to streamline events in 2015.
“It already looks like we have a full day of entertainment lined up,” Festival initiator Lesley Ball said.
The Scarecrow and Wool Festival was a joint venture between Lesley and her late husband, back in 2009.
“My late husband, when we came to Deepwater, decided that we were here. We were here for the long term and we were going to put Deepwater on the map. Between the two of us we came up with the festival,” she said.
“I guess I just wanted to keep it going. It was a passion that he wanted.”
“We are so grateful that the people get behind us, because we do it for the people,” Sharyn said.
