Local stock agent and stock agents association president Shad Bailey said the new ramps have improved occupational health and safety, as well as hastening the loading process.
“It makes things so much better for stock flow,” he said.
The first of the new loading ramps was completed last year. The two-deck loading ramp has been in service for some time and Mr Bailey said the recent completion of a second single loading ramp in time for the weaner sale is a welcome sight.
“The first things people see when they drive in are these new loading ramps,” he said.
“It shows that council are committed to the yards, which is really good.”
The new ramp is fitted with a force gate to make stock movements more efficient from yard to transport.
“Before they were moved from a big yard to a smaller yard and then up the ramp,” Mr Bailey said.
“It just makes things so much quicker.”
Glen Innes Severn Council development regulatory and sustainability services director Graham Price said he was pleased to see the new facility installed in time for the major sales commencing this week.
“The new ramp is really state-of-the-art loading and unloading facilities,” he said.
“It means that if people want to come and buy, particularly around weaner sales where you really want to get them to their final destination as quickly as possible, you don’t want them standing around, we should be able to move a lot of cattle out of there pretty quickly.”
The first of this year’s weaner sales will commence from 9am tomorrow.
