After playing local league and union, Alex worked hard to make it into the Sydney Colts team, then to the NSW Waratahs Squad.
But on March 25, the state squad travelled to Canberra taking on Tonga, Queensland and a combined states team, while selectors where choosing the best players for the Australian under 20’s extended squad.
Jane Newsome said herself and her husband Brad, were very proud and thrilled for their son’s selection into the Australian squad.
“He’s worked very hard to get to this level,” she said.
“We are just over the moon.”
The Australian Under 20’s squad will go to camp from April 28.
They will then play New Zealand, Japan and Samoa in the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions (FORU) Under 20’s championship at Bond University on the Gold Coast on May 1.
“I’m looking forward to playing such a high standard of rugby,” Alex said.
“It’s pretty amazing being able to play against the strongest rugby sides.”
During the FORU championship Alex must impress to make it on to the team who will compete in Italy at the World Rugby Junior World Championship in June.
Alex is currently playing for Eastern Suburbs and training three times a week with the Waratahs while studying Commerce at Sydney University.
