Glen Innes resident Ross Lane said his wife answered a call late last week, from a man claiming to be Telstra representative.
Mr Lane said the caller was very nasty, argumentative and intimidating and knew that their home phone line had been out of operation.
The scammer reportedly placed a jam on Mrs Lane’s mobile number and she was unable to make or receive calls.
According to Mr Lane, the man then asked for a $2 fee to rectify the problem along with a credit card number.
Scamwatch have reminded residents that if they any doubts about the identity of any caller who claims to represent a business, organisation or government department, contact the body directly.
Residents have been cautioned to guard their personal, credit card or online account details over the phone unless they made the call and the phone number came from a trusted source.
