Council Co-ordinator of Recreation and Open Spaces Graham Archibald said that once the council received a complaint steps were put into place to remedy the situation.
“Council will be putting that oval on our six weekly seasonal mowing program,” he said.
“This was decided upon once council became aware that the oval is being used as the helipad for the Deepwater area.”
However, Deepwater resident Julie Watt says that the oval has been used as a helipad for years.
“As long as I have been here that’s what it has been used for,” she said.
“The New South Wales Police also used it as a command centre during local operations, so it is a very important oval, not just for locals, but officials.
“It was overgrown and dangerous, but I am happy that council has responded.”

Acting General Manager of the Lismore Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Roger Fry said local ovals are essential to their service.
“It is a long held practice to use local ovals as landing areas to move patients of traffic accidents or any patient that urgently needs to be moved to a hospital,” he said.
