The Glen Innes home crowd came prepared rugged up and ready for a physical A grade game.
The Sunday game was a bit of change for the Elks, but Coach Sam Price said despite the 32 – 0 loss the boys played well.
“They started out a bit slow,” Price said.
“We had a few good run up the guts,
“Pierce Hayden played well in the line-outs especially in the defence.”
A few fixes throughout the game were made and this improved the second half.
“Very happy with our scrums because we fixed the problem in the second half,” Price said.
“Robb were quite strong and they capitalised every opportunity.”
Price is happy with the boy’s fitness and said it is starting to show in their plays.
“Played strong in the last 10 minutes of the game,” he said.
“Really good to see them digging in,
“There are the little things to work on.”
Price said the new boys are stepping up nicely and getting some diversity out on the field.
“The new fellas this year taking a bit of time to settle in and getting comfortable,” he said.
“It’s just taking a bit longer to adjust to A grade,
“Matt Davies stepped up and played well in half back and the other Welshman Josh Collins played outside centre,”
“Toby Shannon was getting out there and playing well too.”
The Kilted Rugby is being held at the Glen Innes Showgrounds at 3pm on Saturday May 2.
