The Australian side will come together on May 16 in Narrabeen to undertake final preparations ahead of departure for Italy on May 25.
As a part of the selection the Australian extended squad took on Japan, Samoa and New Zealand during the Oceania Junior Rugby Championship in early May.
Alex said it was great experience to play in all three games.
“It was hard to get consistency because we had different combinations for each match,” he said.
He is unsure of what position he will play during the championships in Italy however he said this would most likely be confirmed during camp.
Alex said there would be varied training during camp and another trial match.
The 28 man Australian squad will be in Pool B and taking on the teams from Italy, South Africa and again facing Samoa.
“It’s a really big honour,” Alex said.
“The boys are fighting fit and ready to go.
“I just want to try and put my best foot forward, try and perform well throughout.”
Alex’s parents Brad and Jane Newsome went and watched the Alex play in all three games during the Oceanic Tournament.
‘We were very excited to see him play,” Mr Newsome said.
“Jane and I are very proud, it was very nerve racking.”
