Over 150 attended and feasted on the traditional New Zealand Maori method of cooking food using heated rocks or coals either in a pot or underground.
Glen Innes Rotary Member Gary ‘Dutchy’ Te Velde said the money raised would be split amongst the three programs.
“We are distributing $2000 dollars towards the Helipad at the Glen Innes Hospital,” he said.
“We will distribute $1000 to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, which is a week-long personal development program for young people aged 18-25 years in the formative stage of their careers.
“The other $1000 will be given to the Rotary Youth Transition Seminar which is an intensive week long program that prepares year 11 and 12 students about to leave high school, family home and lifelong friends for the challenge of work or further education in a distant location.”
Mr Te Velde went on to say that many Glen Innes young adults have attended and benefitted from these two Rotary training programs.
“Our young people are 18% of our population yet 100% of our future and Glen Innes Rotary is thrilled with the result and thanks everyone that attended to make the night such a success.”
