Captain of the Retained Fire Brigade Earl Sharman said plans for the celebration next year are well underway.
“We have the marching girls booked and Commissioner of the New South Wales Fire Brigade Greg Mullins will also be attending,” he said.
“We are asking for anyone who has old photos or a history of any family members who have served to contact us because we want to present as full a story of our history as we can.”
“What we do know is that the construction of the Glen Innes Fire Station was completed sometime in 1915 and the station was first occupied in February of 1916.”
The Glen Innes Fire Brigade has only one full time employee all other firefighters are members of the community who volunteer their time.
Mr Sharman said the 100 year anniversary would be especially poignant due to the community spirit of the retained firefighters.
“The fact that they all have full time jobs and can be called out of bed at 4am in the morning, go fight a fire and then go to their jobs shows that they are dedicated,” he said.
“While other people are running away from a fire we are running in.”
Anyone who has photographs, memorabilia or family history can call the Fire Station on 6732 5379.
