At only 10 years old ‘Craybob’ set himself a goal this year to make three PSSA state championships.
Over July 17 – 21 Hope competed in the State Cross Country at Eastern Creek and then played in the State PSSA Touch Football Carnival at Coffs Harbour.
At the cross country he came in 64th position out of 130 competitors, however he came fourth in the North West Region All Schools.
Hope said the ground was wet and soggy and he thinks this slowed him down because he kept sinking into the mud.
“I was really happy with how I went,” he said.
“I was coming last for a little while, but I caught up and took over a fair few people.”
At the touch football Hope’s team lost every game, but he had a lucky streak scoring two tries in one of the games.
The boys had only had one training session before heading down to state due to wet weather.
Hope said some of the other teams had gone down the day prior to get training in on the fields in Coffs Harbour.
“It was really good meeting all the boys; we played 12 games in four days,” he said.
Teacher Marianne Bower said Kaleb picks up skills really easily and thinks about what he’s going to do.
“He’s a wonderful all round student in all he does,” she said.
“He shows great vision, speed and agility and he displays great sportsmanship and attitude.”
