FIVE St Josephs School athletes have secured a place in the next level of Diocesan competition after making the final rounds at the Armidale Diocesan Athletics Carnival, held in Tamworth last Friday.

Local students filled the top 10 fixtures in the 100 metre dash, with Jasmine Doust, James Doust, Charlotte Dunn, Heidi Cave, Angus Cameron and Alexandra Wright coming away with competitive times against their Diocesan counterparts.
Top honours for the event returned home with Adam Campbell who trounced the 2003 Diocesan 500 gram discus record by more than a metre.
The youngster brought excellent technique to the fore to deliver a 27.98-metre toss, topping previous the previous record of 26.49 metres.
“It was amazing,” St Joseph’s sports teacher Brenda Wirth said.
“Adam has been taught by one of the best.”
Oscar Panebianco and Grace Watts also secured a competitive placing in the two kilogram shot put.
Oscar hurled the put an impressive 8.51 metres to claim a close second place from a field of 20 11-years boys contenders.
Grace Watts also threw very well and came away with third place.
After a contentious run, Mollie Cave and Charlotte Dunn progressed in the 800 metre run, securing respective first and third placing. Both will advance to the next round of competition.
