UPDATE 11.05am: Police are not questioning anyone else in relation to the baby’s death.
UPDATE 11.04am: Victoria Police say there were no physical signs of injuries when Ambulance Victoria arrived on scene, however the girl was in critical health. The baby’s five-year-old stepsister was at home at the time emergency services were called to the house.
UPDATE 11.02am: Both parents have been spoken to in relation to the baby’s death. Police say they are mindful the baby’s family is grieving. “We’ve got two parents who have suffered the loss of their little girl.”
UPDATE 11am: Anyone who hasn’t been spoken to by police are encouraged to contact police as soon as possible - Victoria Police address the media in Melbourne.

UPDATE 8am: Homicide Squad chief Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said the incident occurred on Pink Cliffs Road near the Pink Cliffs Road reserve.

UPDATE 7.26am: Homicide Squad chief Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said it was a tragic case.
"We've spoken to both parents, and obviously we need to put together the circumstances of how the child was injured and how she subsequently passed away," he told radio station 3AW.
UPDATE 7.20am: Paramedics were called to a Heathcote address just before 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
The baby girl was assessed by paramedics and then flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
EARLIER: Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a three-month-old baby girl.
The Homicide Squad was notified on Saturday night when the baby was taken from Heathcote to hospital and provided assistance to regional investigators.
They took carriage of the investigation following the death of the baby in hospital about 7.30pm on Sunday, August 30.
A Heathcote man in his 20s has been spoken with and released pending further inquiries.
